Ten cheap or free spring break activities that allow you to have a fun vacation without breaking your budget is our topic today. A low-cost no-cost spring break is not only possible but could be more a lot more fun than you expect. I don’t know about others, but I find that limiting my spending increases my creativity and enjoyment. With inflation and prices being high right now, I don’t want to spend money unnecessarily or increase my credit card balance. So I’m planning a very frugal staycation for Spring Break this year. Another reason that I’m planning on staying home is that many places are extremely crowded during Spring Break. I don’t enjoy being jostled, waiting in long lines, and being stuck in traffic. I would much rather go to less crowded places so I can enjoy time with my family.

So, here are ten ideas for a low-cost no-cost spring break that just might be the best spring break you ever had.

1. MOVIE MARATHON

Pick a movie series that you like, gather your friends, and turn your living room into a movie theater. Create movie tickets and email them to the invitees. Get movie popcorn buckets, sodas, and candy from the dollar store, pop some popcorn, ask everyone to bring some food to share, and settle in for a good old movie marathon.

2. GO GEOCACHING

Geocaching is the world’s largest treasure hunting game. According to the Geocaching website, “Over 3 million cleverly hidden containers called geocaches are hidden all over the world just waiting to be found.” To get started you need to create a free geocaching account and download the official Geocaching app or use a GPS devices. Pack a backpack with drinks, snacks, some field guides, and a pair of binoculars and start searching! Getting out in nature is good for the body and the brain.

3. GO BOWLING

Bowling is a great activity that all ages can enjoy together! Many bowling centers offer specials- you just need to ask! When it’s hot, an air-conditioned bowling alley is a great place to be.

4. BUY A MEMBERSHIP

If you’re planning to visit a museum, botanical garden, or a zoo this spring break, buying a membership at some museums, botanical gardens, or zoos entitles you to reciprocal membership at other similar venues all across the country. This makes your membership much more affordable and usable.

5. CAMP IN YOUR OWN BACKYARD

State parks and campgrounds are usually very crowded during spring break, but you can have just as much fun camping in your own backyard. Borrow a tent if you don’t already own one, get your grill set up to roast hot dogs and make s’mores, tell scary stories, and look at constellations. One of my favorite apps is SkyMap. I’ve learned so much about the planets and stars using this free app. It’s like having a planetarium and an astronomer at your fingertips.

6. MINI- GOLF

This is my kind of golfing! Fun for all ages, pretty affordable, and you can find a mini-golf course just about anywhere.

7. FREE ADMISSION DAYS

Most museums offer a day or certain hours where you can enjoy the museum free. Do a search where you live to see what is available in your area. Some zoos also have free or reduced admission on certain days or during certain hours.

8. GO FLY A KITE

Dollar stores sell kites or you can even try your hand at making your own kites, then go to the park and have a family kite flying competition.
