Are you ready for homeschool convention season? It seems to start earlier than ever these days!
You might feel like you just got back to school after your holiday break, but some conventions start in February! Homeschool conventions generally wrap up by the end of July. The Homeschool Buyers Club has a helpful list of conventions throughout the US on their website.
You might be wondering if it’s worth the time, expense, and effort to go to a homeschool convention. In my experience, it’s definitely worth it! Homeschooling is an incredibly rewarding endeavor, but it can also be a lonely experience for many home educators, especially if you don’t have a lot of homeschooling support in your area for your style of homeschooling. Attending a homeschool convention is a great way to get inspired and equipped to keep going in your homeschooling journey. I love being around other homeschooling parents, discussing homeschooling, looking at curriculum and resources, and listening to experts in various subject areas. It’s hard to do all of that at home without being interrupted.
I was excited and intrigued by the variety of homeschool conventions that I found in my search. Are you a gameschooler? There’s a gameschooling convention in California but hurry, because it’s happening February 19-22, 2026 in Irvine! Are you an unschooler? Well, there are unschooling conventions, such as The Unschooling Summit.
If you’re a Charlotte Mason homeschooler, The Charlotte Mason Institute and Simply Charlotte Mason have offerings for you! Secular homeschoolers also have some conference choices, both in-person and online!
Homeschool conventions not only have something for the homeschooling parent, but many of them have special offerings for kids of all ages. Great Homeschool Conventions offers an optional children’s conference for an additional cost.
So, once you find a convention you want to attend and you’ve registered to attend it, what should you do to make sure you are ready for homeschool convention season? I have four tips to help you get the most out of a homeschool convention.
Tip #1
Know your child’s learning style, your teaching style, and your homeschooling methodology before you go to the convention. This will help you to hone in on the materials and curriculum that will meet your needs the best, saving you time and money in the long run!
Tip #2
Read the convention FAQ on their website so you know who is speaking and when, what you’re allowed to bring to the convention (such as food, a wagon or stroller, etc.). Nothing is more disappointing than missing a speaker session you wanted to hear or having to carry your child because your wagon isn’t permitted.
Tip #3
Research curriculum prices and make a list of what you are interested in purchasing to take with you to the convention. It’s easy to get overwhelmed and either forget to buy something you wanted or to accidentally purchase something twice (ask me how I know about this!).
Tip #4
Bring a sweater or jacket (convention halls are often quite chilly), chargers for your devices, some cash, a notebook and pens, and shopping bags with you. You don’t want to lose precious time running back and forth to your car during the convention. If your children will be with you, pack a busy bag of quiet toys to keep them entertained if there aren’t any separate options for children.
Once you’ve done all of these you can be confident that the answer to the question, Are You Ready for Homeschool Convention Season is a resounding and confident YES!
I’m wishing everyone a great homeschool convention season! Happy Homeschooling!
